My Soccer Weekend

Just last weekend my soccer team had a tournament in Madison at Reddan Park. It was a long drive over there, but we got to stay in a hotel so it was worth it.

So our first game was pretty ugly, but we still won 4 to 3. We were playing Kettle Moraine who we had just tied 4 to 4 a couple weeks ago. At the start of the game they scored 2 quick goals on us. One was a good goal that took some skill and teamwork; the other our goalie took a bad goal kick that went slowly on the ground to someone on their team that just chipped it over his head. It would stay like that for the remainder of the first half. Now the second half went a whole lot better for our team. Out of nowhere we scored 4 goals and were now up 4 to 2. Kettle Moraine would end up scoring one more goal, but we still won 4 to 3.

Our second game was in the afternoon and it was against a premier team (one of the best in the state) called the Wisconsin Rush. Looking back on it, our first half went really well even though we basically had no scoring opportunities, but they had a whole bunch that they just bombed over our goal. So no one scored in the first half. Things changed in the second half. One change is that they put this at least six-foot African American on offense instead of defense. So even though we double teamed him he still powered through us and we ended up losing 3 to nothing or something like that.

After a night in the hotel we had our next game at 11:00. It was against Racine, a team we had played many times and were all good, even games. So the game started and we could tell this was going to be a tough one. It just went back and forth so there wasn’t much offense, but there were a couple shots and breakaways. One of them in particular from their team I had stopped a wide open goal for them. So here’s how it went: I was sprinting right next to a guy on their team who was dribbling straight at our goal with the ball. Our goalie came out to try to stop him, but the player with the ball dribbled around him. While that happened I hurdle the goalie, went around, stole the ball from the attacker, and kicked it out of bounds. Nothing much more happened for the rest of the game so we tied 0 to 0.

Even though we didn’t even make it to the next round in the tournament I still had fun and I hope the rest of my team did too.
